/\/\/\/\/\ WHAT HE SAID, UNLESS YOU GO WITH A TH350 OR TH400 WITH AN OVERDRIVE UNIT BEHIND IT. THEN YOU WILL HAVE A 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC.

YOU CAN ALSO GO WITH A 6 SPEED MANUAL OR, IF YOU HAVE THE MONEY, GM ALSO MAKES A 5 SPEED AUTOMATIC.......

I would disagree on that one. You'll need a computer to run the 4L60E, otherwise its about the same as a 700r4, just newer. Because of the fact that every thing on the 4L60e is all electronic, people tend to charge more to rebuild them. Plus parts are more available for the 700r4.

There is a company that makes overdrive units that bolt behind transmissions....

They also make one for the 700r4 thus giving you 8 forward gears.....

If it were my money, I would do a TH350 or TH400 with a overdrive unit behind it. Every single 700r4, 4L60, and 4L60e trans that I have had has always gave out on me. It didn't matter if it was a stock or modified engine or whether it was an original trans or a trans with a rebuild, running a shift kit and cooler, stall or not lol.
