As far as the double hump heads make sure they have accessory holes to mount power steering, alt ,ac brackets. Also be aware that to go through a set of those old heads you may be cheaper to buy better aftermarket heads. As far as motor let the machine shop know what you are trying to do .Has the block been bored before ?I wouldnt go bigger than .60over as far as boring.Piston should be bought once you figure how much your block is bored. And what kind of compression you plan to run will determine what type of piston along with cc size of your heads. Dont go too big on cam just to get a choppy sound,Because it will make the car slower.

loose those heads

do you think i would be better off buying a used vortec, putting a new intake and carb on it,and some headers?and when you say what type of compression am i chasing, what is the value of compression,i mean what actually is it?also if i did run vortec, should i use a cam?

bort the block over 30..get the pistons that size and get new rings,,make surte that the top of yo pistins is zero'd out on the top..which mean the pistins go rite up to the very top of the bl;ockand are flat wit the top of the block..cuz my block wasnt n its bored over 30 and they didnt zero out the top of the block whichi i woulda lost compruseeion and hp bigtyme...so i striiped the whole block down and took it all dwn to the machien shop and they zero'd outy the top and pressure dunked it to get all the crap out inbetween the pistons n shit and also it helped to get the paint to com off easier so i could spray it...

so in yo head you gota kno wat you want..if you dont want to rediculous then do .30 over wit flat top pistonsand then get the best rings for em ..i got all mine like 2weeks ago and the bearings...i got spreed pro rings n my mechanci said they the best for the price

then get yo heads port n polished up real nice my mechanic say it add bout 30-50hp

if you doin all new internals boi you gonna have a big bill on ya at the speed shop..lol cuz u gotta buy new pistons, the rings.bearings.and the rest the internals should be good..and dont go to crazy on a cam..specially if u juz doin a street car like i am

and make sure the cranks good..you do all that wit sum decent heads...good mainfold carb headers and air cleaner then u can prolly get it to 350 pretty easymaybe even 375-400....thats wat i did to my 355 and its not dynoed yet or even been turned over but im pretty sure im at easy 400hp hopefully from the #s my mechanic was throin roun wit everythin i got all togetha
