No, you wouldn't have to paint them white first.
But I would use some adheisive promotor on them one they are cleaned up really well.
Use some soapy water and clean them real well.
Wear some gloves so you don't get oils from your hands on them.

Something to consider.... do you want them to look factory with the texture on them or smooth?

I have a write-up on doing this to factory plastics on www.fiberglassforums.com but you have to join to be able to see it.

If it is a stock color you want to re-create, then it is hard to beat SEM.
They carry a wide range of colors that match many of the factory colors in vehicles.

If you are looking to color match to an exterior paint, then you need to mix it to match and spray it on with paint guns.

Another thing to consider....... if you had a replacement part that was yellow, and you want to make it black, the black will cover that fine in a couple coats
But say you have a red part and wanted it green, it would take several coats for the red to cover copletely and then it would look too dark with the green base.
So thats when you want to look into doing a primer on all parts to insure a good even color match through out the vehicle.

Thats exactly what I was wondering! koo..

i kinda figured it wouldnt be a problem since I was going all black for the whole interior. and I guess its SEM im going with.

I got a dash cap in my 76 caprice and it looks a1. Most can't really tell until they pay real close attention.

If you're going all black, you may definitely want to consider the Angelus paints, they've got actual leather paints made specifically for leather, and moving parts [not like some of the other stuff with is craft paint (not made to flex)], they've also got dyes, waxes, and cleaning cremes and compounds.

I carry lots of there stuff... if i don't have it i will within a week.

They've got this great cleaner for leather, and trust me, if it'll make a raggedy ass pair of my wife's Reebok's sparkle, it'll do a interior which MOST times see a lot less action then a pair of kicks.

they've also got a deglazer/prep that will deglaze (take protective coating) of leather, so the paint will bond, and also have finishes for the leather paint, in case you want a bright gloss, or perhaps a matte finish.

Find out how much that SEM costs for me and let me know, and i'll see if i can't beat it with my guys stuff. cool.gif
