A guy that i worked with was telling me about this guy he kno that cut the top off a g-body reagl some years back without bracing the sides & they started folding in after a while. I'm talkin about the part behind the doors. He said the roof & the part by the side windows is support for the sides so if you cut that off make sure you weld something in there to keep them straight
crownvic02
yeah you gotta reinforce that shit, but hell it only cost a stack to get your top cut off up here, dude with the cutlass cut his own top off i think, but not a convertible, it has a a snap on top and 19.gif at snap on but seriously it's a snap on

Dang I didnt even see this post until now.
Good info, would you know what to weld to the sides?
I figured that you would have to support them, Im just trying to figure out with what, & after the top is off dont most fiberglass to edges to smooth em off?
veltboy618

You can't bond fiberglass to metal. It will eventually crack & pop loose. There is some kinda bonding agent out there you can get to help fiberglass to the metal (just google bonding fiberglass to metal & see what you get) but I say weld everything up, grind the welds down, put a lil mud on it, smooth it out, prime it, then paint it!

Im nervous to do it myself.
I think I will let the shop do it, depending on price.
Those pics look Good! (no it motivated me very much)
So is that a big slab of metal on the last pic or what, how did they reinforce that if you know?
thanks.

I don't know how they did it but it just looks like a slab of metal to me. I think that would be enough to support it. I was thinking about doing that myself but I dont have anywhere to store the car right now so Imma have to wait on that. it dont look hard to do. Just make straight cuts. Oh yea you need to check on the A-pillar to make sure it aint no rust so the windshield dont come folding down on you while driving on the highway. Thats just a lil to think about bcuz if its weak the roof was holding it up but now its gone

My 77 Monte Carlo was done something like this and I never had any problems with it.

Yeah it was real nice 15 years ago. That is still the same paint I had on it. It won a ton of trophies at lowrider shows. Got a few best of show trophies too back then. thumbsup.gif

On mine it was part of a kit from a S-10 vert conversion. It was cut and pieced back together to fit. You could probably ask Hia-Chico about it though. I think he knows what factory vert top fits on G bodies.
veltboy618
i think the blue one with the reverse trunk got a top like I want

Your shit doesn't look OEM bruh. There's NO TOP. twak.gif

Honestly, you are kinda taxin to just to cut a top off. It aint THAT hard. The hard part is PUTTING A NEW WORKING VERT TOP ON.

You're not gonna tell US Florida boys about verting cars, especially ME. Im from the city of vert box chevys and g-bodies. I've watched my homeboy do them. We got dozens of them down here. (dont make me post'em)
