how do you guys build those model cars? and where do you buy the parts and cars from?
941 Floatin'
well yuo start by buying a kit and you glue it together............or you can get a snap togehter kit and you done

of course this was the very simplified version but thats basically it

the kits you can get at your hobby shop...used to be able to get em at wal-mart but not anymore...and alot of the parts ive used like subs and rims i toook out of dub city cars........sum of these more professional guys mae their own parts

Trial and Error, youre gonna fuck up a few cars no matter what but it pays off

in addition start with diecast to build up your painting skills diecasts are metal so if you fuck up one paint job you just spray some paintstripper on it clean it up then be done with it

Yeah, I've never used diecast before but I want to, mainly to work on my paint skills..

These are the first 2 cars I ever painted (both plastic)

First is a "2-tone/fade"...no sanding done or no clear...i prolly shoulda cleared cause its dull as hell...

(dont worry, the wheels werent attached...just sitting under the fenders)

Then this is a regal, some kinda blue but I did clear this one...but no sanding or anything (too advanced for me..lol)

I wanna get back into working on them but I dont have the time (or place) to do it...

all i work with is diecast. you can still strip paint from plastic. but i dont reember what to use.. brake fluid or something. i can find out exactally if you want me too...

but here is how my paint jobs turn out in diecast.. flawless.. smooth as glass.. wetsanded with 12,000 gritt sand paper and polished.

Purple Power and theres some other shit. never use brake fluid unless its your last resort shit makes the plastic brittle

Jada and Maisto theyre the only ones keeping up with the new car market Bburago stepped up and fucked up at the same time with a bad ass Maserati GT then went and fucked up the Reventon. it all depends on your budget.

candy is pretty advanced and very easy to fuck up. it also depends how deep you want to go you either spray it black or silver depending on how deep you wanna go but i dont beleive in using spray cans to shoot candy either it looks way better out of a airbrush.
2 tone base with purple candy

2 tone i use blue tape with 1/8th shaved of the edge to prevent bleeding. another way is tape the edge spray some clear around the edge so that you get a clean break. i think you spray the darker color first i do it how i feel its best to keep it from getting fucked up

the 2 brands that highridah listed are JUNK straight JUNK.. i get GMP, highway 61, Ertl, Lane, america muscle (which is ertl) shit like that, they are expensive.. everything i post is 1/18th scale.

Jada is good for wheels and sterio shit. but all their cars are horribly out of scale.. bburago is another low end brand that isnt too good. but they might have some shit your looking for. i really only do classic muscle, unless i find a nce BMW or some shit that auto art makes.
(there is a reason why they call me the diecast craftsman, diecasts my thing, know just about all there is to know)

now for paint.... 2 tones are pretty straight forward.. spray one color.. let it dry.. tape up the car.. and spray the second color.. with model cars, since its such a small area.. take the tape off before the paint drys to prevent the tape from pulling up with the tape. have had that happen before and it sucks.

As for kandy.. ive gotten good results with both rattle can (spraypaint) and airbrush. it all depends on your prefrence and what your used to. everything i spray now comes out of the airbrush and 90% of it is house of kolors or Auto Air.

if your thinking about getting a airbrush.. definitly definitly get a double action. lays down better, AND its about 10X easier to clean up. Stay away from testors/aztek airbrushes.. they are good for beginers. but they have plastic bodies and cant hold up to the solvent based paint as well and the metal bodied paashe or badgers.. good luck
