Just moving all my motor build from my monte build thread to the motor section, if anyone got any questions or input, or whateve feel free to add!

SBC, dont worry bout what size, aint a 350 though allgood.gif

when the bitch got dropped off from the prginal owner (I love suburban house wives, if it was'nt for them I would'nt have this bitch LOL)

aluminum intake gotta go

gotta clean off all that old gasket and shit

all gone

got a lil bored and was just test fit'n some shit, see'n how it would look

air gap the way to goo thumbsup.gif

should have a nice size pile of shit for sale for dirt cheap if anyone needs some engine parts

that intake is polished aluminum, just needs a nice lil cleaning
St. Pete
back @ it again, getting the valve train out the way

gotta keep them shits in order if you want to reuse them again (I wont be though)

1side out

second side out

Lifters next, they sale a tool that you can use that helps take them out easy, but shit if you like me & on a budget. Take a slim piece of metal bend a hook @ the end and it works just as fine LOL

all them shits out, wit the trust tool on deck LOL

alls clear,

Heads & cam came out next, rest of pics on my cam,

I'll keep the thread updated as it goes and all that good shit!!!!

Ight woke up this morning and did some more work, just trying to accomplish something everyday or once a week @ least.

this shit happened over the weekend though, fucked around & broke my damn torque wrench messing wit cheap ass extentions

broke right off in the damn socket

TWICE fighting0001.gif

but sears had a sale so I jump'd on another one so I'm back in the game now

Ight torque wrench back on deck, gotta tackle the head bolts

Ight all head bolts out except the bottom two on the outside ends (arrows pointing too in the pic)

reason you leave those to bolts in is for removal.

heres what ya do to make it easy (for those who aint know)

1. you unthread those two bolts maybe 2 & 1/2 turns

2. take ya socket or any tool thats kinda slim @ really strong & wrap a shop towel around it (like so) my socket was not long enough so I switched to a ball joint puller

CAUTION!!!! CAUTION!!!!! CAUTION!!!!!!

before you continue, please make sure that you pin is pushed ALL THE WAY IN on your engine stand

3. Take your socket or whatever tool you picked to use and stick it into a whole on the intakeside of ya head

4. Then take ya hand & hit the shit out of it, like so 19.gif

(reason for the shop towel is so that you dont damage your tool or you heads, and you left those to outter bolts in but unsrewed like half way becasue when you hit it, (make take a few tries and you can switch to different holes in the head) those two bolts will catch the head and stop it from falling to the ground & u wanna make sure ya pin is in the stand becasue when you take one head off, the weight is un even and then ya motor will turn onver on the stand)

5. Ya head is off thumbsup.gif

Oh yeah make sure you leave like a bolt or some kind of marking in one of the heads so you know which side that head came off from thumbsup.gif

Then just repeat the same process for the other side

Ight both heads off, should be bout 17 bolts per head, keep them shits together in a bag or organizer if u going to re-use them, shits easy to loose

Heads should be going out to machine shop by end of the week if they can fit me in, aint really feel like fucking wit the valve and all that shit, plus I was gett'n some work done to the heads anyways, so I said why not just let them do it all in one WHOP!

15-16k on the bottom end (dont ask what size & whats in it, im not tell'n) wit papers so I aint really gotta even get down into all that for what Im building, maybe on the next build up though. But when I drove what it came out of, I was very shocked it got down like that thumbsup.gif

What HP and torque numbers you tryna get out of it?..

So what are you doing. Will you be dropping this off at a machine shop to get all the work done and bottom end and you just gonna build the top yourself?

Ok last of all that I need to break down on this motor

getting the harmonic balancer off, advance auto rental tool ($100)

kinda self explaintory to use, if u never used one before, here ya go

1. take the piece circled in red and line it up agains ya balancer
2. then you find with bolts out of the are circled in teal/skyblue fits your balancer and screw them in just a little it
3. take the long peice circled in green and place it in the middle of the red piece
4. then take the little tip circle'd in pink and place it over the piece circled in green and stick it inside the balancer and then tighten it all down.

will look like this

& like this when its all tighten down

then you take a socket or wrench and just start to turn the head of the long bolt thats in the middle

**HELPFUL TIP**

The bitch is on there tight so its going to take some muscle!!!!!

once you start turing and it may get toooo tight and then the engine will start to rotate you have 2 choice.

1. take a screw drive and stick it in the teeth of the flywheel to stop the ehgine from turning and then turn the tool (kinda hard to do but can work)

OR

2. Do what I do and remove the oil pan, take the end of a hammer or something long (padded perferred but not mandatory) and stick it up in between the crank (like so)

a) remove oil pan

cool.gif stick handle up by crank and turn the tool which will hold the hammer in place and stop the engine from rotating

Then you can start to turn the tool, dont get discouraged

cuz the shit is on there really really tight and its kinda hard to turn, but keep turning!!

but sooner or later it will just slide off the crank shaft thumbsup.gif

Ight now that the oil pan is off, good time to check (just incase) that there aint no metal or shit like that @ the bottom of the pan, if so you got some big problems LOL, but err thang a GO over here.

Bottom end look'n just like I thought, damn near brand new thumbsup.gif

My dumb ass forgot to take the other drain plug off, so Im wonder wha the hell was droppin on me while I was taking the balancer off LOL, got that out of way.

Ight time to get that cam and shit and Im done with the break down!

kill them timing cover bolts

pry it off wit a flat head or scrapper something flat

Next untorque ya cam bolts and get it the cahin and all that out the way

gear on the crank comming off too, but no point in me doing it right this second, when Im still waiting on a few things

ok really really important part!! REMOVING THE CAMSHAFT!!!!!!!

Ive seen plenty of people possibly fuck up a motor down the line while doing this.

Correct way is to pull it out slowly (very slowly) until you feel it get caught up, what it is doing is hitting the bearings inside the engine, those bearings are really really key part of ya motor, so you dont want to damage them or even pull them out by yank'n on the cam and pull'n and shaking and shit, they can very easy get damaged

Sooooooooooooooo, while pulling you turn either clockwise or counter clockwise which ever u perfer and pull gently @ the same time

and you will start to feel it free up and slide out.

I usually go every four then stop, then the next 4 and stop and so forth until its all the way out like so

4 then stop

4 then stop

4 then stop

then pull the rest of it out!

Ight engine is finally where I neede it to be!!! Time to get a lil work done to the heads (if I can ever find a decent shop to do it roun here) and paint everything and strat adding all the goodies!!!!!! So that whats up next.

parts box keep growing and growing lol

gonna make a sale thread when Im done with it all in the forsale section anyone got SBC and need some shit

If i was to guess on a good street motor with some power and not to much to build I would say he is building a stroker motor. On the other hand he hasn't showed us any new parts except the intake manifold. If he is replacing the heads/crank with sbc 400 parts with a little machine work then Im guessing ok. Good work so far. Im starting to break down my Impala motor.

Look up your head number if your reusing them but I doubt you are. My heads are 041 made 69-70 and are performance heads. I will post pics later..
