i have a 1984 box chevy on 4's with the stock 305 in it but i blew out my transmission.I was thinking of putting on a turbo 400 transmission in there with a shift kit. do you think i would still have to get the gear done high?I am upgrading to 26's to what should i do? ohh and do you think my 305 will be ok till i get enough money to get a 350 (the 305 only has 33,000 original miles on it)

Get a built TH350 and 3.73 or 4.10 gears and you'll be straight.

shyt for a box i'd try to go back to 700 tranny, but if not a choice gon to a well built 350th dont fuk wit 400, a good 3.73 gear should do but i like 4.10.....

^^ This man speaks knowledge. If the box ever had a 700, put it back in there. Even if it didn't and you plan on drivin the car a lot I'd do it.

real talk, i wouldnt even mess with a 350 or 400..if u running rims like that and talking bout driving. u should defenitely run a 700r4..and either 3:73 or 4:10 gears. and if your 305 running good.. leave it alone.. and at the same time stack your money up for either a bigger motor like a 350 or 400..but just keep up with your 305..and make sure u keep everything up like the tune up oil changes, etc

I agree but disagree. First off the 700's are good overdrive transmissions. That is what they are for ridin'. On the other hand turbo 350's and 400's are built to handle the stress especially a 400. U will probably never blow that 400 with the right gearing. Very strong. I am a fan of built 350's. They handle stress because they only have 3 gears so they already hold there shifts longer. That's y u tear up regular transmissions with rims because the weight makes them hold the shift longer and they can't handle it. A built 350 is just a really good transmission to me but then again that's my opinion. I don't care about gas either. If u care about gas u could buy a built 700 a be good, but the cost of a built 700 is about double of a 350. So it's ur decision.

thanks for the help i just got a 700 built and did my gears to a 4.10..with the 305 it is still slow as hell though so i am going to put in a 350 soon..i also want to put on 28's do you think a stock 350 would push that or am i better off getting something like a 383?
